39 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Gazipur
Detectives detained at least 39 Jamaat-Shibir men and recovered four crude bombs from their possession in Gazipur city this evening.
The members of Special Branch (SB) with the help of police raided a coaching centre in Maddhya Bhurulia area around 6:30pm, Shahidul Islam, an assistant sub-inspector of SB, told The Daily Star.
The law enforcers picked up the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir as they were holding a “secret meeting” to commit anarchy on the streets ahead of the fresh spell of BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal.
He added that they had recovered four crude bombs from their possession.
They have already been handed over to Joydevpur Police Station, the SB officer added.
Identities of the detainees were not available immediately.
