Boycott of pvt buses on in 3 Sylhet upazilas
People of Jaintapur, Kanaighat and Gowainghat upazilas will continue boycott of private buses and minibuses till full resumption of BRTC service as announced by the Finance Minister.
This was told at a rally held at Jaintapur upazila headquarters on Sunday, organised by the Brihattar Jainta Samannaya Samity.
Chaired by former chairman of Jaintapur upazila, the rally was also addressed by a number of political leaders of all parties and chairmen of different union parishads in the three upazilas.
People started the boycott on October 13 on Sylhet-Jaintapur, Sylhet-Kanaighat and Sylhet-Gowainghat roads after a strike by private transport owners stopped BRTC service on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway.
Meanwhile, four BRTC buses started plying the Sylhet-Tamabil-Jafflong road on Sunday. Two buses are plying on Sylhet-Tamabil road, one on Sylhet-Gowainghat and one on Sylhet-Kanaighat road.
Another four new buses were brought but not pressed into service apprehending attack by private transport workers.
