2 JMB men to die for killing police informer

A speedy trial court in Dhaka today sentenced two members of outlawed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to death for killing a police informer in Tangail nearly eight years ago.
The death row convicts are Saiful Islam and Abdur Rahman.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment in presence of the convicts at the courtrooms.
The JMB men gunned down Jainal, an informant of police, at Bamna check post on Dhaka-Tangail highway on December 29 in 2006 when police raided a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan, which was carrying firearms and explosives for the outfit.
A police constable, Siraj Miah, was also hit by a bullet during the incident.
Soon after the incident, police arrested two of the JMB men -- Saiful and Abdur Rahman -- from the spot and seized huge amount of firearms, ammunition and explosives.
A murder case was filed with Tangail Sadar Police Station in 2006.
Police pressed charges against the duo on July 4, 2007.
The case was later shifted to the speedy trial court in 2012.
