142 researchers of 54 Bangladeshi institutions among top 2% most cited
One hundred and forty-two researchers from 53 Bangladeshi institutions were among the top two percent of the most cited researchers in 2021, according to a research by Stanford University.
Stanford University published an updated list of the top 2% of most widely cited scientists in 2021 on October 10, 2022, reads a press release.
The list consists of 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields.
Of 200,409 scientists in the list of single recent year citation impact, 142 researchers secured the position in the list from the different institutions from Bangladesh this year.
The researchers come from 25 universities, 13 private universities, one international university, 14 research institutes, and one college.
Some of the 54 Bangladeshi institutions hosting these top researchers include International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research Bangladesh (icddr,b; 18), Rajshahi University (RU; 10), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU; 7), Dhaka University (DU; 7), Jahangirnagar University (JU; 6), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST; 5), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet; 5), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet; 5), Chittagong University (CU; 4), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet; 4), BRAC University (4), Islamic University of Technology (IUT; 4).
In the category of single recent year citation, among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh is in 3rd position; India (3,796) and Pakistan (686) are respectively in first and second.
This world's Top 2% scientists ranking is considered the most prestigious globally. The analysis was accomplished using all Scopus author profiles as of September 1, 2022.
Fifty-six researchers from 32 Bangladeshi institutions made it to the top two percent most cited authors in their fields in 2019.
If the government, University Grant Commission (UGC) and ministry of education pay attention to produce quality research continuously, the number of researchers in the list will increase significantly, which will contribute to the quality of education and increase the university's ranking globally, read the press release.
