Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) early today reconnected electricity to the VC's residence after over 30 hours.

Earlier, students who have been holding protests and hunger strike demanding the resignation of the university's VC, Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, cut off power supply to his residence at 6pm on Sunday, our Sylhet correspondent reported.

In an emergency press briefing at 2:30am, a spokesman of the students, Ariful Islam, said that the intention was to convey to the VC some of the difficulties the protesting students were facing.

"Apart from the VC's residence, this same connection also goes to guest houses, dormitories, and around 30 residential houses. For a vice chancellor, so many people and families have suffered. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience," he said.

Ariful also denied the university's proctor and student welfare adviser's claims that the VC's residence's gas and water connections had been cut off.
