RU, CU postpones in-person classes for 2 weeks
The authorities of Rajshahi University and Chittagong University have postponed in-person classes for the next two weeks following the government's decision to keep educational institutions closed till February 6 amid sharp rise in Covid-19 transmission.
The two universities issued separate notifications in this regard today.
At RU, the academic activities will be held virtually after keeping all the residential halls open, said a notification signed by Prof Pradip Kumar Pandey, administrator of the university's Public Relation Department.
Talking about the exams, he said the respective departments will take decision through discussions.
Emergency administrative activities will continue from 9am to 2 pm except on weekends, the notification said.
Besides, outsiders were asked not to enter the campus except in case of emergencies, it said. Authorities concerned were instructed not to hold any meetings, rallies and public gatherings on the campus, it reads.
During the last three days, 136 samples were collected from the university. Of them, 68 samples returned Covid-19 positive -- 50 percent of the total samples, according to RT-PCR testing lab.
At CU, though in-person classes will be suspended for the next two weeks, pre-scheduled examinations will be held in time, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Prof SM Monirul Hasan, registrar (acting) of the university.
Residential halls will remain open during the class suspension period, he said, adding that shuttle train service will remain in force.
