DU halls reopen after 18 months
After a long wait of 18 months, students of two academic years of Dhaka University finally moved in the halls this morning.
Students, who had at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, moved in their respective halls showing vaccination certificate and university ID card around 8am after the gates opened, reports our DU correspondent quoting authorities.
Soon, students of other academic years will also be able to move back to their respective halls, Dr Abdul Basir, convener of the provost standing committee hoped.
Ferdous Alam, a residential student of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, left Jhalakathi for Dhaka last night via a launch after a long stay at home.
After reaching Dhaka in the morning he waited in line at the hall gate.
As the clock struck 8am and gates opened, Ferdous entered his hall with others. Provost and the residential teachers checked his temperature and greeted him with a mask, flowers and chocolate.
He walked towards his room with a smile on his face.
"I came from Cox's Bazar at night," said Farukul Islam, another student of the hall.
"It feels really good to be back at my hall after so long," the relieved student added.
After visiting Poet Jasim Uddin Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Masterda Surja Sen Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, it was seen that authorities were ready to welcome students maintaining Covid-19 hygiene rules.
Banners containing the rules was seen hung in front of the halls. Sinks were also installed with soaps for students to wash hands before entering.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman was scheduled to visit Bijoy Ekattor hall at 10am and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall at 10:30 am, the public relations office said yesterday.
