Attack on qawwali concert at DU: Now police charge batons at protesters
At least five activists of the People Activists Coalition (PAC) were injured today after police charged batons on their rally in front of the National Museum this afternoon organised to protest the attack on a qawwali concert at Dhaka University's TSC yesterday evening.
"Five of our activists were injured while police charged batons to disperse us," said Shimul Chowdhury, secretary of PAC.
Following the incident, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation formed a protest rally at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus condemning the police attack.
Meanwhile, a DU based band—Silsila—organised another qawwali concert this evening at the university's TSC area protesting yesterday's attack.
Earlier in the day, students of the university brought out a procession on the campus protesting the attack.
Denying the allegation of charging batons, Moudut Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Shahbag Police Station said they requested them not hold rallies due to the current Covid-19 situation.
The qawwali concert at TSC was attacked yesterday allegedly by Chhatra League activists.
A group of BCL men vandalised the stage, chairs and beat up the programme organisers and some students, said witnesses.
