'Liton is a good quality international player now'
Comilla Victorians advisor and former Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes stated Liton Das became more consistent with his form over the years since the English man left his post as the Tigers' head coach after the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup.
Reminiscing the batter's performance when Bangladesh reached the Asia Cup final in 2019 during Rhodes' tenure, the former Bangladesh coach said how Liton caught his attention and showed promise for the future.
"The day that I thought this guy was a good player was in the Asia Cup final, when he scored 100. That was an amazing innings on quite tough conditions against a very good team and he played a marvelous innings that day and now he's become a little bit more consistent with that form as well," Rhodes said while talking to the media after Victorians' training session at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
"He's growing and getting better, and the good thing that Liton hasn't stopped. He can get higher so he can improve even more. He is improving and he's a good quality international player now," he said.
Rhodes also mentioned that he had been following Bangladesh cricket even after his departure.
"I know this sounds crazy, but I followed it [Bangladesh cricket] very very, very closely. I really enjoyed my time here as I'm going to enjoy this next five weeks with Comilla.
"But yes, the answer is yes. I followed everything that was going on. What you guys were reporting with Bangladesh cricket," the Victorians advisor said.
Rhodes was seen sharing a cheerful moment while meeting with Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah Riyad on his first day at training on Monday.
"They were all very friendly and so it was really nice to see them both again. I've obviously very close relationships with a lot of them, so there were no issues, no dramas and it was all friendly and wonderful to see those guys again," the former national team coach concluded.
