Seven runs off a dropped catch!

In a rather bizarre turn of events, Bangladesh conceded seven runs off one ball during their second and final Test against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Wickets have been hard to come by on the decent batting strip, but Ebadot Hossain, who got the Player of the Match award in the opening Test in Mount Maunganui, created a chance in the 26th over of Day One.

The Tigers had a tough time after opting to field as the Black Caps openers, Tom Latham and Will Young, put on 148 runs for the opening wicket to put the hosts on the driver's seat. With the Kiwis' score at 99, Bangladesh had the chance of making their first breakthrough. Hossain bowled a length ball outside the off-stump and Young pushed at it in a rather tentative manner.

However, Liton Das dropped a simple chance in the slip cordon and the ball went towards third man. The batters in the meantime ran three, making most of the opportunity. In the meantime, more misery awaited the Tigers. The throw came in at the bowler's end and the overthrow went for a four. It meant that a wicket-taking delivery ended up producing seven runs.

After the Tigers goofed up, the commentators were also pretty bemused. Brendon McCullum and Craig McMillian, the ones with the microphone, also spared a thought for Ebadot, who has bowled his heart out in the two-match series thus far.

 "Oh, we're going to have a seven are we!? And the bowler's had to chase it down from the boundary as well," Fox Sports commentator McMillan said. "Wow, he got the nick then had to chase it down to the boundary."

 "I don't know where to go with that one. It shelled in the slips, madness ensures and poor Ebadot Hossain just to rub salt into the wounds (chases down the overthrow). You've got to be kidding me," McCullum said.

When Young was dropped, he was batting in his 20s with his skipper, Latham, being the more dominant partner. Young went on to score 54 runs off 114 balls with five fours before Shoriful Islam accounted for his wicket.
