Sri Lanka lose openers, Bangladesh lose reviews

Sri Lanka lost both their openers after electing to bat first on the first morning of the Chattogram Test, thanks to a brace from off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, as the visitors reached 73 for two in 24 overs at Lunch. 

The 22-year-old, who replaced injured Mehedi Hasan Miraz in the squad, gave the hosts the breakthrough in his first over after coming in as the first change when he trapped Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for nine. The left-handed batsman tried to cut one outside the line, but the ball hit his pad first and the review returned umpire's call.

On a batting surface, the Lankans looked comfortable but Nayeem struck again before the luncheon interval, this time getting the dangerous-looking Oshada Fernando caught behind for 36.

Kusal Mendis (27 not out) was joined by Angelo Mathews in the middle.

Bangladesh used four front-line bowlers so far as Shakib Al Hasan was yet to come in to bowl. The most impressive, though, apart from Nayeem was pacer Shoriful Islam.

The young left-armer bowled on a good channel and extracted little movement off the seam and kept the batters on check while the rest went for runs on a batting track. However, Shoriful's overzealous attitude cost Bangladesh two of their three reviews. The left-armer cajoled skipper Mominul Haque into taking two reviews which, on naked eye, looked poor decisions. Mominul, however, known for giving in to bowlers' demands too often without using his own judgement, was left red-faced as Bangladesh have only one review left in such early stage of the innings.
