Shakib, Mushfiqur star in century stand as Tigers dominate first session of Day 2
Despite losing Mominul Haque early, Bangladesh dominated the morning session on the second day of their lone Test against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan and veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim both reached fifties as they starred in an unbeaten 130-run fourth-wicket stand. Bangladesh reached 170 for three after 37 overs at Lunch with Shakib unbeaten on a run-a-ball 74 and Mushfiqur not out on 53 off 77 deliveries.
Shakib remained the aggressor between the duo, staying busy in the middle since coming on to bat. In fact, the Bangladesh Test and T20I skipper opened his account with a boundary off the very first delivery he faced. He played a magnificent drive through cover off a Mark Adair delivery to get off the mark.
Shakib has not taken his foot off the pedal since then, smashing a total of 12 boundaries. Shakib's fluent innings not only disrupted the momentum of the visitors but also seemed to have made Mushfiqur play more freely as the latter batted with more authority since his skipper took guard at the other end of the crease.
Mushhfiqur, even though not as aggressive as Shakib, smashed six boundaries and a maximum so far.
Bangladesh now trail by 44 runs after resuming the day on 34 for two in 10 overs. On Day 1, Bangladesh bundled out Ireland for 214.
