Asian Tour from April 3
The Bangabandhu Cup Golf Bangladesh Open, a full-fledged Asian Tour event, will take place at the Kurmitola Golf Club from April 3 to 6, confirmed an official of the Bangladesh Golf Federation yesterday.
This will be the fifth consecutive year that the KGC will host the Bangladesh Open, albeit the first time it will be named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation. The first three editions of the prestigious event were held as the Bashundhara Bangladesh Open while last year's edition was held as the AB Bank Bangladesh Open.
"The Bangabandhu Cup will be held from April 3 to April 6. We are prepared to host the event, which will hopefully be more exciting and colourful than previous editions," Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) coordinator and KGC general manager of golf operations Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abdul Bari (retd) told The Daily Star yesterday.
"We are hoping to hold the logo and trophy unveiling programmes in the last week of March," the golf official informed.
Although the first four editions had 300,000 dollars as prize money, this year the event will offer a purse of 350,000 dollars.
"The prize money will be higher this year, so we hope to attract even better golfers than before. The tournament will be sponsored by National Bank Limited," Bari informed.
