Decent start by Siddikur
Bangladesh's premier golfer Siddikur Rahman made a decent start to the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, carding a one-under-par (71) in the first round yesterday.
The 32-year-old could have had a much better outing as he carded four birdies at the Taiwan Golf and Country Club, but three bogeys saw him joint-23rd in the US $800,000 event.
Siddikur began well enough and got his first birdie on the seventh hole, but he looked in danger of falling away as he returned bogeys on both the 9th and 10th holes.
However, he returned with dual bogeys on the 12th and 13th befor e returning a bogey on the 14th. The last and final one of his birdies came on the 15th hole.
Thailand's Settee Prakongvech took the solo lead with a scintillating seven-under-par (65), which featured five birdies and an eagle. He is two strokes ahead of Malaysia's Gavin Green in second place.
Playing in only his second appearance at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, Settee surprised even himself.
"I didn't expect to shoot a 65. I thought if I played really well, a 68 would be a good score or if I played decent, maybe a 70. But to shoot a 65 is a big surprise to me," he said.
