Franchises sign big names as BCB own Dhaka
Prior to the start of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players' draft that is taking place at a city hotel today, the big names -- Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mustafizur Rahman -- were picked through direct signing by their respective franchises.
Each team are able to recruit one local player and three foreign players through direct signing. Dhaka had already picked up Bangladesh T20 skipper Mahmudullah while Shakib was roped in by Barishal and Mushfiqur was signed by Khulna. Mustafizur Rahman has already signed for Cumilla and Chattogram confirmed Nasum Ahmed while Sylhet hired Taskin Ahmed in their ranks.
However, the Tigers ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is yet to find a team and the left-hander is expected to receive a call through the players' draft.
Yesterday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the list of the players' draft even though there was confusion regarding the ownership of Dhaka. Rupa and Marn's group were initially in line to own the Dhaka franchise but since they were unable to complete the financial formalities, the BCB has decided to take over and operate the Dhaka team.
