World Cup jersey under revision
In the face of tremendous backlash from fans and the media, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan announced yesterday that the national team jersey for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, which was unveiled during an official photo session on Monday, will be redesigned.
Hassan invited the media to his corporate office and revealed the jersey's proposed new design, which now sports the touch of red which was previously missing from the solid green version while the second kit was mostly red with a bit of green.
The BCB boss brought along a sample of the new design and held it in front of the journalists for all to see while informing that they have already received approval from the ICC to alter the design of one of the two kits.
"Our committee has already chopped the new design of the jersey and sent that to the ICC. They informed that the colour of the player's name, number and the team name should not have red in it so they changed that into white. That is the reason why there was no red in the jersey which was previously unveiled," Hassan told reporters.
The BCB president also said that while it is unnecessary to add accents of the national flag on the team jersey, the board always endeavoured to keep both the red and green in the past.
"There was no red colour on our jersey during the 1999 World Cup, it was yellow and green. I think it's wrong to compare the jersey with the national flag but we did try to keep red and green in the team jersey and will keep on doing that," he said.
Meanwhile, there was a lot of talk over how Shakib Al Hasan was absent during the official team photo shoot for the World Cup in Mirpur even though the ace all-rounder was present at the home of Bangladesh cricket ahead of the programme.
According to Hassan, Shakib did apologise for not participating in the photo session. Apparently, Shakib alleged that he 'could not read the message' which was sent by the board informing him of the event.
"What Shakib told me is that he did got the message but he was unable to see the message, adding that he was unaware that there was a photo shoot for the BCB. That is what he said and that is the truth. What I heard from my side is that he was informed about the photo shoot but he said that he couldn't read the letter. Anyway, it may happen as he said that he would have surely been present if he knew," Hassan said.
