‘With these catches, either you catch it or you miss’
Bangladesh did not have the best possible day on the field with a number of catches being dropped on day 3 but Taijul Islam's incredible effort on the field to remove centurion Brendon Taylor, was one instance where the Tigers pounced on a half chance.
In the 99th over of the Zimbabwe innings, off the bowling of Mehedi Miraz, Taijul took a tremendous catch that left everyone in awe. Taylor was going strong on a ton and wanted to whack Miraz to cow corner but Taijul, positioned square of mid-wicket, leapt in the air to take a mesmerising catch while diving to his right.
It was a full-length dive from Taijul as he plucked the ball out of thin air while the ball was travelling at speed over his head. The modest cricketer, who had also bagged five wickets in the match acknowledged that it was perhaps just a half chance.
"With these catches, either you catch it or you miss. I went after it with the intention of catching it and, by the grace of Allah, it stuck," the left-armer said.
Taijul himself had missed a catch off the bowling of Khaled Ahmed today. Nazmul Islam, Mominul Haque and Mohamed Mithun had also not been able to hold on to opportunities on the field. He said that although catches were dropped, the team were not fielding badly.
"In the last match, although we lost, our fielding was good. In this match, although we dropped catches but it is not that we fielded badly. There will be one or two dropped catches in a match," he concluded.
