Shukkur, Mazid guide Mohammedan in Super Over, Prime Bank stay top
Mohammedan Sporting continued their winning run in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League, beating Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in Super Over at BKSP today.
In a rain-curtailed match reduced to 10-overs-a-side, Mohammedan's Abdul Mazid hit a blistering 30-ball 57, laced with five fours and four sixes but there were no one else to make any significant contribution to the score. After Majid's departure in the ninth over, Mohammedan lost five more wickets in the last nine deliveries and reached 88 for nine. Irfan Hossain bagged four for 9 runs in two overs for Khelaghar.
Khelaghar's opener Jahurul Islam struck 28 off 15 while Masum Khan's unbeaten 33 off 17 helped take the match to Super Over with the scores tied. Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Mohammedan with two wickets for 22 runs in 2 overs.
Masum batted in the Super Over against Abu Jayed to score 13 runs. Irfan Shukkur and Mazid guided Mohammedan in the Super Over, with the former hitting a six in the first delivery before hitting the required single off the last delivery to take his side over the ropes.
The other match at BKSP in the morning was shortened to 13-overs-a-side as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi won by 16 runs against OLD DOHS. Shykat Ali (37 off 23) and Mohammad Ashraful (26 off 22) put on 69 runs for the opening stand as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi managed to reach 120 for 8. Anisul Islam Emon was the pick of the bowlers for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy (33 off 25) and Rayan Rahman (36 off 28) held the innings together with a 68-run partnership but after the former departed in the 10th over, a flurry of wickets saw Sheikh Jamal restrict OLD DOHS to 104 for 7.
Prime Bank stayed on top of the standings following their six-wicket win over Brothers Union at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
The match was hampered by early morning showers and after 5.1 overs the players had to go off due to rain. The match was later shortened to 12-overs-a-side and Brothers Union managed 74 for 3. The revised target for Prime Bank was 84. Tamim Iqbal (29) and Mohammad Mithun (28) held together the chase and although both departed late on, Prime Bank completed the chase without much hindrance. Alauddin Babu bagged three wickets for Brothers, conceding 19 runs in three overs.
