Lots of positives from Bangladesh series, says Masakadza
Having been crushed in the away series against South Africa, Zimbabwe were whitewashed by the Tigers in the ODI series but Hamilton Masakadza's men came back to win the first Test against Bangladesh and gave them a run for their money. The Zimbabwe captain saw lots of positives to take from the Test series and after the conclusion of an intriguing Test series, he was sure the team was prepared for harder challenges.
"I think the biggest thing for us is, the way the guys played in both Tests just showed us what we can do as a team. It will give us a lot of confidence going forward. Having been in battles like this really hardens you, and you come out the better for it on the other side," Masakadza said.
Bangladesh have beaten top teams like Australia and England at home. After winning the first Test, Zimbabwe were in with a chance to take away a series victory which ultimately did not happen. Masakadza recognized the challenge of the task they were up against and was happy to do well in alien conditions.
"The biggest lesson and the biggest positive for us is that we came and showed what we can do in foreign conditions - conditions that have been really hard for pretty much everyone around the world. We came and really competed and took the game to Bangladesh. So that's really positive and big for us."
However, the captain clarified that drawing the series 1-1 was not a victory for Zimbabwe even as he was happy to have fought so hard.
"I wouldn't really consider a victory per se, but I'm happy with the performances the guys put in. They fought really hard, even in this Test match where we were behind for the whole Test match. I was impressed with the way the guys fought and applied themselves," he concluded.
