England-based Imranur breaks 22-year-old 100m record

England-based Imranur Rahman became the country's fastest man by grabbing gold medal in the 100m sprint in Sheikh Kamal 45th National Athletics Championships at the Army Stadium in Banani today.
The 28-year-old, who entered athletics at the age of 16 in England, took 10.50 seconds (electronic timing) to dethrone Mohammad Ismail, who finished third.
Imranur also clocked the fastest timing in Bangladesh's history, eclipsing Mahbub Alam's 22-year-record of 10.54seconds, which he had set at the Kathmandu SAF Games in 1999.
Imranur had taken part in British University Indoor Athletics competitions, winning 60m sprint by clocking 6.68 seconds. He took 10.40 seconds in 100m sprint trial at BKSP last year.
Meanwhile, Sumaiya Dewan unseated 10-time national champion Shirin Akter. The BKSP athlete finished her dash at 12.30 seconds (electronic timing). Shirin finished her race at 12.36 seconds.
