Held last Sunday, 18 February, at London's Royal Albert Hall, the 71st annual British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) awarded promising and noteworthy films, documentaries and media personalities who made a name for themselves in 2017. While The Shape of Water made splashes by having a whopping 12 nominations in different categories, it was the drama film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri that received the most spotlight, with nine nominations and five award wins in a number of categories. Directed by the British-Irish director Martin McDonagh, the film was given the “Best Film”, “Best Original Screenplay” and “Outstanding British Film” awards. Frances McDormand won the “Best Actress in a Leading Role” and Sam Rockwell won the “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” awards for this film as well.
