BUBT team wins mock parliamentary debate on tax management
Debate for Democracy hosted a mock parliamentary debate on tax management on December 22, 2018 at Bangaladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) where Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) became the winner. The runner-up team was Islamic University. The chief guest of the programme was Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, NDC, Chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The members of the winning team were CSE student Tanzila Ahmed Pinky, English student Shrimoti Kirttonia and Law student Shamima Nasrin Shanta. The programme was presided over by the Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman, Debate for Democracy. The jury was formed by journalist Sajjad Alam Khan; Prof. Abu Muhammad Rais; Journalist Dawlat Akter Mala; Development Communication expert Dr. S. M. Morshed and Senior Information Officer of NBR Syed A. Mumen. Md. Sabbir Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English with BUBT students was present as the mentor of BUBT Debating Club.
UAP organises second season of Adblitz
Ingenious Marketing Club (IMC) of the Department of Business Administration, UAP organised the second season of the ad making competition "Adblitz - Crafting the Next Ad-Maestros" on December 18, 2018. The objective of the event was to unleash the creative potentials of the business students in the field of marketing and promotions. Acclaimed industry professionals were invited as moderators. Eight groups presented TV commercials developed on their own innovative concepts out of whom three groups were finally selected as champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up. The highly competitive session created a vital platform for the students to link theoretical concepts with practice and strive to achieve excellence in their field.
The programme was chaired by Head of the Department of Business Administration Shamsad Ahmed and finally concluded with vote of thanks by the convener of the club Samira Sahel, Lecturer, DBA, UAP.
DIU hosts Family Day 2018
"Daffodil Family Day 2018" was held on December 21, 2018 at Swadhinota Milonayaton of Daffodil International University (DIU) permanent campus. Around 2500 employees of Daffodil Group took part in the programme. The most important event of the day was to form human map of Bangladesh with the participants. Family Day also included events like painting competition and sports with participation of employee's children, cultural function, prize giving session etc.
Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Daffodil Family distributed prizemoney among the best performing employees of Daffodil Group Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil Family; Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC, DIU; Prof. Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean, Permanent Campus; and Mohammad Emran Hossain, COO, Daffodil Family were also present.
NSU organises session on BJET programme by JICA
An interactive information session on Bangladesh-Japan ICT Engineers Training Program (BJET) by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held at North South University (NSU) premises on December 8, 2018.
The session aimed to discuss about the job opportunities in Japan for the students of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) through BJET training programme. The purpose of the BJET programme is to develop skilled ICT engineers to work in Japanese IT company with Japanese language, IT skill, and soft skill such as Japanese business manners.
Speakers of this session were Yuki Morishita, JICA Expert, Head of B-JET Admin Team; Mohammad Shamsus Saleehin, Manager, HR and Admin, BJIT Ltd., B-JET Program Coordinator; and Safkat Arefin, NSU Alumni, Graduate, BJET 4th Batch.
The session was conducted by SEPS Career Development & Industry Outreach Program at NSU, headed by Shaikh Shawon Arefin Shimon, Lecturer, ECE Department, with the help of Career & Placement Center (CPC) at NSU and NSU Computer & Engineering Club (NSUCEC).
Notre Dame Business Club organises 4th Business Fest
The 4th Business Fest Bangladesh was held at Notre Dame College (NDC) from December 7-8, 2018 arranged by Notre Dame Business Club. The club has already arranged 3 more business festivals in the last 3 years. The Notre Dame Business Club organised events like Business Olympiad, wall magazine, business problem solution with PowerPoint, business idea development, advertisement making, photography, and extempore speech. More than 154 educational institutions participated in the fest. There were 2 categories of participants in the festival: Junior and Senior consisting of class 9 to class 10 and class 11 to 12, respectively.
On the first day of the fest, the workshops were conducted by Koushik Shaha of Pathao; Tajdin Hasan, Head of Marketing, The Daily Star; Mushfiq R Farhan; and Rashedul Huq. On the second and final day of the fest, there were workshops by Shafayet Monsoor Rana; Apurba Avi of Apurba Avi photography; Sayeda Nabila of Pathao; actor Siam Ahmed and by chief guest Md. Bazlul Kabir Bhuiyan.
AIUB student among Digital Bangladesh Award winners
Sauda Musharrat of Department of Computer Engineering, AIUB, is one of the five winners of the Digital Bangladesh Award with her idea "Vision 2041: An Affordable Real-time Patient Monitoring System for Underprivileged Hospitals". This project idea was guided under the supervision of Dr. Kamruddin Nur, Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science, AIUB. The "Digital Bangladesh Day" was observed through the organisation of various programmes and seminars aiming to educate people on ICT-based services to build a technologically advanced country. The theme was "Digital Bangladesh will be Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangla". The event also acknowledged the Digital Bangladesh Award winners of RoboWar and puzzle game shows, discussions, seminar, nationwide online essay competition in the prize giving ceremony at BICC held on December 12, 2018, organized by the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division. The occasion was graced with the presence of Mustafa Jabbar, Minister, Ministry of Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology; Md. Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary to PM; Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister's Office; Zuena Aziz, Secretary, Office Information and Communication Technology Division; and A K M Khairul Alam, Director General, Dept. of ICT.
ULAB concludes CI exhibition on Youth Empowerment
A three-day long Curriculum Integration (CI) exhibition organised by Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) department of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) concluded at Shilpakala Academy in the capital on December 20, 2018. The theme for Fall 2018 was "Youth Empowerment".
Keeping relation with the theme, the CI exhibition was divided into two parts – visual art exhibition, and film exhibition preceded by a public dialogue and drama.
Prof. Dr. Jude William Genilo, Head of MSJ, inaugurated the visual art exhibition. The exhibition, which was open for public from December 18 to 20, featured posters, photographs, masks, illustrative displays, and video graphics.
Parallel to the students' artworks, a corner of the gallery was dedicated to showcasing war-time photographs of acclaimed photographer Anwar Hossain.
The panelists of the public dialogue included Faruk Wasif, Assistant Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo; Arif Jebtik, blogger and online activist; and Arzoo Ismail, Senior Lecturer of the School of Business at ULAB. Kashfia Arif, Lecturer of Media Studies and Journalism department at ULAB, acted as the moderator.
After a short break, the film exhibition started with Prof. Genilo delivering the welcome speech. Filmmaker Khijir Hayat Khan attended the session as the chief guest.
UODA hosts seminar on social entrepreneurship
The University of Development Alternative (UODA) arranged a seminar on "Social Entrepreneurship: HRM as an Entrepreneurial Tool" at its auditorium in Dhanmondi recently.
UODA Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Ahmadullah Mia was present as chief guest. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Salim, Director of UODA Masters Programme was keynote speaker, presided over the seminar. Proctor Tapon Kumar Biswas was present as special guest.
Assistant Professor of Faculty of Business Administration, Abdullah-Hil Muntakim was resource person, and moderated the dialogue part. Fatima Islam Priyanka, Office Manager CTEIP, PMSC, LGEB HQ was the guest speaker. BBA and MBA Coordinator Mostofa Kamal and Mahmudual Kabir Shandhi also spoke among others.
TdH Netherlands arranges workshop on strategic plans of CSOs
With financial support from European Union, and implemented by Terre des Hommes Netherlands, a rolling out workshop on strategic plans of 3 civil society organisations (CSOs) under the project titled "Combating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CCSEC) in Bangladesh" was organized on December 3, 2018. Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF); Street Children Activist Network (SCAN); Sex Workers Networks of Bangladesh (SWNOB); and National Children Task Force (NCTF) attended the workshop.
Ehsanul Hoque, Child Protection Specialist, TdH Netherlands talked about the objectives of the workshop.
