When I sit down in front of my laptop to write, I keep getting distracted by the Facebook notifications and YouTube videos and whatnot. I can guarantee that happens to most other writers as well. But thanks to OmmWriter, I'm better equipped at tackling this challenge.
OmmWriter is a minimalistic text editing software for PC, Mac and iPad that shuts out all the distraction while you're writing. The full screen app doesn't allow you to switch to other software or windows easily, thus effectively reducing distractions. The interface is easy on the eyes and has a soothing image of trees in snow at the bottom. The interface colour can be changed as well.
What I love about OmmWriter is that it is designed for writers. The app has three different relaxing background sounds that help you get into your zone and boost creativity. And whenever you type, there are three different keyboard sounds that you can turn off if you aren't up for them. You type in a small box in the middle of the screen that you can enlarge. There are four fonts to choose from and four sizes of the text. At the bottom of the screen you can see the word count. Like I said, it is indeed very minimalistic.
But there are some limitations to the software as well. You can only save in .txt format or OmmWriter's own .omm format, or export the file to PDF, but you cannot save it as a .doc file, and that is pretty inconvenient. Neither can you directly print from within the software.
In any case, a writer needs a peace of mind to calm down and write, and OmmWriter provides the best way to do that. You can get the free version of the app at http://ommwriter.en.softonic.com
