An Arabic Twist on Twenty Questions

Platforms: Android, iOS, WP,

Java, Fire OS

Akinator the Genie is a game app that opens with a genie swooshing out of a magical lamp, promising to be able to read your mind. You have to think of a real or fictional character, and the genie guesses who it is after a series of questions. The more guesses it gets right, the greater the number of Geniz scored by the player; the rarer the guessed character, the higher the level of Aki Awards – ranging from Standard and Bronze to Platinum and Black. Other daily challenges involve "Most Talked about Philosopher" or the "Most Played MTV TV Character".

The genie's near-perfect accuracy with the guesses is genuinely creepy, which makes it an excellent ice-breaker. While it does sometimes include very specific questions, more often it asks for quite vague and general information to miraculously arrive at Seamus Finnigan, Phil Dunphy and even Ananta Jalil. My personal favourite was when it got Chunky Pandey right.

Just when you start to expect magical feats from the genie, he blanks out over characters as common as Cameron Diaz or Leonardo DiCaprio. You can choose to keep playing for more questions if he gets something wrong, or stop the game and type in the correct answer.

It's an extremely addictive game, overall, and perfect to be played in the company of friends.
