NYC mayor warns of actions if Muslims attacked
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has threatened of stern actions if Muslims are attacked in hate crimes against them. He also urged to report to his office if such incidents happen.
The mayor also promised of prompt actions against the perpetrators, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo today.
"The Bangladeshi communities are excelling in all spheres, they will do exceedingly well in politics and economy," the New York correspondent of the Bangla daily quoted him.
Bill de Blasio made the remarks at a ceremony held at Hillside Banquet Hall in Queens, Jamaica of NY.
The programme titled 'The Bangladeshi American Community for Mayor Bill de Blasio Funding Event' was organised to raise funds for the upcoming NY City mayoral election.
The mayor also said that every citizen has equal rights in NY and his administration is active to protect everyone's rights irrespective race, religion and colour.
Praising the organisers of the ceremony, the mayor said he was overwhelmed to see such move by the Bangladeshi community.
"I know them (Bangladeshis) since the time when I used to visit Brooklyn church," the mayor was effusive and he also said "I am overwhelmed by their love and cordiality,"
He also urged all of the Bangladeshi communities to join the fundraising campaign.
Dignitaries of the community and business men participated at the ceremony.
