Jatiya Party Lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman today demanded formation of a parliamentary committee with senior lawmakers to look into widespread corruption in the country’s different sectors.

Taking floor on a point of order, the opposition lawmaker pointed out various corruption allegations in different organisations, including Faridpur Medical College and Rooppur power plant.

Pointing to the alleged corruption in Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the JP MP said Tk 37.5 lakh was shown as the price of a curtail, while Tk 5.27 crore was shown as the price of an oxygen generating plant.

He said the Health Directorate spent Tk 85,000 to procure a book having the price of Tk 5,500.

“Institutional corruption and irregularities have put the government’s achievement on the verge of challenge and cast a shadow over the government’s achievement. The incidents of corruption come into surface one after another before the nation,” said Pir Fazlur Rahman.

Joining the point of order, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid demanded foreign minister’s statement in the parliament under the section-300 of its rules of procedure over Priya Shaha’s remarks placed before US President Donald Trump.

He criticised the government for its failure to curb the dengue menace, ensure fair price of rawhide of sacrificial animals and prevent milk adulteration.

Noting that thousands crore of Taka is being looted in the health sector, the BNP MP questioned why corrupt persons are not being killed when drug dealers are killed in crossfire?
