Drugs, arms and gold worth Tk 120cr seized along Benapole border in 2020
The members Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized drugs, arms and ammunition, gold and foreign currency worth Tk 120 crore in the last one year from smugglers at different areas along the Benapole border.
During this time, BGB also arrested 378, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting BGB sources.
Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer of Jashore 49-BGB Battalion said 23 foreign pistols, 41 magazines, and 105 bullets were recovered in the last one year.
They also seized 55,496 bottles of phensidyl, 953kg of cannabis, 550 bottles of domestic and foreign liquor, 1,850 pieces of yaba, 42kg gold, and USD 738,000, the BGB official added.
Ordinary people at the border are getting involved in smuggling drugs and gold in hopes of earning a huge amount of money in a short period of time, BGB sources said.
As a result, the number of smugglers operating along Benapole border is increasing day by day.
Smugglers from Pakshiya, Dihi, Shikarpur and Ramchandrapur areas along the border are more active, BGB sources said.
The other areas along Benapole border where smuggling takes place are, Putkhali, Daulatpur, Gatipara, Sadipur, Raghunathpur, Ghiba ,Dhanyakhola and Kayba, Rudrapur, Goga, Agrabhulat, Panchbhulat, Shalkona.
