Bangladesh wins 2 gold medals in Int’l Robot Olympiad
Bangladesh won two gold, two silver and five bronze medals along with six technical awards at the 22nd International Robot Olympiad (IRO) today.
Robo Sparkers team's Misbah Uddin Inan of Chattogram Cantonment Public College and Zaima Jahin Wara of William Carey Academy won a gold medal in the creative category (junior group).
RoboTigers team's Nasheetat Zainah Rahman of Sunbeams and Quazi Mostahid Labib of Chittagong Grammar School-Dhaka bagged a gold medal in the Robot in Movie category (challenge group).
Because of the pandemic, the IRO competition was held online this year and conducted from Daegu, South Korea.
A 19-member Bangladesh team has participated in the IRO from BCS Innovation Centre in Dhaka on December 12 and 13, according to Bangladesh Robot Olympiad (BDRO).
"Bangladesh has been participating in the IRO for three years and performance of our team has been surpassing the previous years'," Lafifa Jamal, president of Bangladesh Robot Olympiad Committee, told The Daily Star Today.
"Our meritorious students are doing great in various international competitions. This is a continuous improvement of the Bangladesh team and if we can keep it up, it is possible to do something bigger in the future," she said.
Bangladesh won the gold medal in the Creative Category (Junior Group) at the International Robot Olympiad for three consecutive years. Besides, Bangladesh secured a gold medal in the challenge group for the first time this year.
