Bangladeshi abducted in Malaysia: One arrested with ransom money in Barguna
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has arrested a man in Barguna in connection with a case filed over the abduction of Bangladeshi migrant worker Sohel Mia in Malaysia.
The arrestee is Nasir Uddin (38) of Bamna upazila in the district, Major Mohammad Jahangir Alam, deputy director of Rab-8 in Barishal, told The Daily Star.
The Rab official said Nasir Uddin was arrested in a raid at Barguna's Kholpatua are on Tuesday (October 4, 2022) in connection with the case filed with Ghatail Police Station in Tangail.
Nasir is the account holder where the ransom was deposited. Also, Tk 5 lakh of the ransom was also recovered from him. He was handed over to Ghatail Police Station later that night, he added.
Ghatail police sought the help of Rab-8 in this regard as the bank account where the money was deposited was in Barishal.
Meanwhile, Ghatail police yesterday (October 5, 2022) produced Nasir before the court and sought a seven-day remand. The court rejected the remand application and sent him to jail.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station, Azharul Islam, said, "The ransom money was deposited in Nasir's account and the money was recovered from him. Therefore, Nasir is our only source at the moment to unravel the mystery of the Sohel Mia abduction case. So, we are preparing to apply for remand in the court again."
Sohel's brother-in-law, Belal Hossain, said, "There is no news of Sohel yet, so our anxiety is increasing. His elderly mother, sister and the entire family are spending sleepless nights."
He believes that it will be possible to trace the location of Sohel interrogating arrested Nasir.
On the other hand, police in Malaysia are continuing the search for Sohel Mia. Johor Bahru Police Station sources said that raids have already been conducted at some suspicious locations.
Officials of the Labour Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur said that the mission has given the highest importance to the abduction of expatriate Sohel Mia. They are in constant touch with the Malaysian and Bangladesh police administrations.
According to Sohel's neighbours in Malaysia, the abductors picked him up from in front of his home in Tamiljaya neighborhood of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on September 25 at 9pm (local time).
On September 28, Sohel's brother-in-law, Billal Hossain, filed a complaint with Ghatail Police Station in Tangail in this regard.
On the other hand, Hashem Ahmed, a relative of Sohel and also a Malaysian expatriate, filed a complaint with Johor Bahru Police Station in Malaysia on October 2, 2022.
