Gazette declares 6 seats of BNP MPs vacant

The Parliament Secretariat this afternoon issued a gazette notification declaring the seats of six BNP MPs vacant.

The seat of another BNP MP Harunur Rashid was not declared vacant as his resignation letter was not accepted.

The Parliament Secretariat could not make sure whether the signature in Harun's resignation letter was put by him, sources at the parliament said.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury earlier in the day said Harun would have to submit his resignation letter afresh.

Five of the seven BNP lawmakers submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker earlier today.

They went to the parliament around 11:00am and handed in their resignation, reports our correspondent.

They are Md Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3; Md Mosharof Hosen of Bogura-4; Gulam Mohammad Siraj of Bogura-6; Md Aminul Islam of Chapainawabganj-2 and Rumeen Farhana, lawmaker from a seat reserved for women.

The other two BNP lawmakers -- Md Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3, and Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan of Brahmanbaria-2 – were supposed to submit their resignation in person later.
