BGB personnel loses right foot in landmine blast on Bangladesh-Myanmar border

A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel was critically injured in a landmine explosion along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

The incident occurred today around 12:25pm near pillar no 41 along the Tumbru–Baishfari border under Ghumdhum union, according to BGB officials.

The injured Nayek Akhtar Hossain was stationed at the Reju Amtali Border Outpost (BOP) under the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB). The explosion severed his right foot up to the ankle and left him with serious injuries to his left leg.

Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, commander of the Ramu Sector, confirmed the incident and said Akhtar was immediately rescued and taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Ramu, where he is undergoing treatment.

According to the BGB, the explosion occurred while a patrol team from the Reju Amtali BOP was on duty at a proposed temporary outpost in the Pairabunia area.
