Bar on unvaccinated from going out: health ministry says didn’t issue such statement
Health ministry has distanced itself from the comment made by Liberation War Affairs Minister yesterday.
The statement saying that the government will not allow anyone who is unvaccinated -- aged 18 or above -- on the streets from August 11 was not issued from the health ministry, said a press release.
"Health Minister Zahid Maleque said no such decision or proposal was given anywhere on behalf of the ministry," read the statement sent by Maidul Islam Prodhan, public relations officer of the health ministry.
After a scheduled inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat yesterday, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told journalists, "Anyone above 18 will not be allowed on the streets and on any mode of transport unless they are vaccinated."
There was wide criticism on social media soon after the announcement. People found the comment -- on punishing the unvaccinated people for going out or barring them from joining work -- unrealistic and unjust as the health ministry is currently vaccinating only those aged 25 and above.
