"1920," a new mega-serial on the lifestyle and views of youngsters in their late teens, goes on air from tonight on ntv. The serial is being scripted and directed by talented TV and theatre actor Hridi Huq. Noted theatre personality Enamul Huq, Hridi's father, talked to The Daily Star on how he envisages her debut as a TV serial director and more. "I'm quite eager to see the response to her new mega-serial. 'Amader Anandabari,' scripted by Hridi, was aired on the same channel. With '1920,' she is turning a director. I'm hopeful that her direction will definitely add new dimensions to the TV serial scenario," says Dr. Huq. The reason behind his high expectation is Hridi's inherent talent and the way she was groomed. "To be able to hold the audiences' interest throughout a long-running serial, one has to adopt certain techniques. I think Hridi is well aware of these techniques. Her participation in debates in school provided her with a rational, argumentative style of dialogue writing. Her knowledge in both music and dance has enabled her to achieve a keen aesthetic sense. She had participated in several theatre workshops that have helped her to extract the best from her actors. Moreover, she is an actor herself. I think all these qualities will result in a good production," said the seasoned actor-playwright-director. Hridi has the privilege to get guidance from her parents, as both are involved in TV and theatre. But Dr. Huq denies any possibility that a career in the media was imposed on Hridi by her parents. "We didn't push our daughters into the media when they were young, mostly because it hampers studies. Hridi was involved in several extra-curricular activities but it was not until college that she got directly involved with the media. And it was absolutely at her own will," Dr. Huq says. Though Hridi has shown her potential in acting and is now stepping towards direction, Dr. Huq thinks she will do best in scriptwriting. "I think she has an inherent talent in writing. When she was in her teens, she wrote a one-act play as a participant of a theatre workshop organised by Udichhi. I was convinced by that play titled, "Bus Station," that she was much ahead of her age. I knew since then that she will be a successful playwright one day," said the proud father. Not that he appreciates every aspect of Hridi's approach and style though, "She is a bit short tempered and a perfectionist to boot -- traits that often leave her frustrated." The cast of "1920" includes young actors -- Tisha, Nafiza, Kusum Sikder, Shahriar Shuvo, Swagota, Avik, Imtu and others along with several popular actors such as Jitu Ahsan, Litu Anam, Kumkum Hasan and Mirana Zaman. The first episode of the serial will be aired tonight at 8:15pm on ntv.
