Jamaat biggest enemy of Islam: Shahriar Kabir

Jamaat-e-Islami is the biggest enemy of Islam in the country who have tarnished its image by killing people and raping women in the name of religion, said Shahriar Kabir, acting president of Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Trial of War Criminals, yesterday. He said this at a press conference at the Liberation War Museum in the city. The press conference was organised to mark the 17th founding anniversary of the committee and declare new programmes for the trial of war criminals. “Secularism does not mean it goes against religion,” he said, adding, “People are now aware that Jamaat have cheated them in the past in the name of Islam.” The Nirmul Committee would form two citizens' commission to help the government try the war criminals. Justice Golam Rabbani and National Professor Kabir Chowdhury will head the commissions, which would prepare reports on war crimes based on evidences and information about war crimes in 1971. The reports would be submitted to the prime minister on March 27. The Committee urged the government to form special tribunal and try the war criminals under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973 and bring back photographic and filmic evidences of war crimes stored in archives of India and Pakistan. Justice Golam Rabbani said the country needs to go back to the original constitution of 1972, ruling out the claim of BNP leader Moudud Ahmed that it is not possible. The Committee thanked countrymen for not casting their votes for the war criminals. It will continue holding programmes in the constituencies where the people have voted out Jamaat and publish a white paper on militancy in Bangladesh this year. Sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini, Prof Ajoy Roy, architect Rabiul Hossain and Prof Mahfuza Khanam were present at the press conference.
