Babar granted ad-interim bail

The High Court yesterday granted ad-interim bail for six months to detained former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar in an arms case.
After hearing an appeal filed by Babar, an HC bench comprising Justice Tariqul Hakim and Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal passed the order.
Counsel for Babar barrister Ahsanul Karim yesterday told The Daily Star that the HC granted bail to his client on health grounds. Scrutinising the medical report, the HC observed that Babar should be taken abroad for his proper treatment.
Babar was granted bail by the HC in all the cases against him and there was no legal bar to his release from the jail, he added.
On October 30 last year, Metropolitan Special Tribunal-9 Judge Sayed Jahed Mansur sentenced Babar to 17 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition at his Gulshan residence in the city.
