Reminiscence on poet Samudra Gupta

Bangladesh Sanskritik Karmi Sangha (BSKS) arranged a memorial programme honouring the recently deceased poet Samudra Gupta at the auditorium of Music and Dance Centre, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on July 30. Noted cultural personalities spoke on the life and works of Samudra Gupta. Artistes also rendered poems written by Gupta.
The programme started with observing a one-minute silence to pay tribute to the poet. Samudra Gupta was an integral part of BSKS since its inception in 2001, informed organisers at the programme. A.F. Akram Hossain of BSKS rendered Gupta's poem Aamar swapner shei shonali briddho.
Rezina Wali Lina recited Gupta's poem Rog and Rabindranath's poem Chiro Aami. Shilpi Akhter rendered a Lalon song Pakhi kokhon jani urey jaye. Shamima Chowdhury rendered poems -- Bibhram and Tomar du haat meley -- written by Samudra Gupta and Mahadev Saha respectively.
General Secretary of Jatra Shilpo Unnayan Parishad, Milon Kanti Dey; filmmaker Shibli Sadik; theatre personality Ataur Rahman, director of the Department of Theatre and Film, BSA, Abul Kamal Shafi Ahmed; poet Rabindra Gope and poet Iqbal Khorshed spoke at the programme.
In his speech, Ataur Rahman said, "My instincts told me that Samudra Gupta was fond of me. I was introduced to Gupta at a seminar. Since then we met on a number of occasions and exchanged views."
Shibli Sadik said, "I was introduced to the poet when we worked together for BSKS. He was an optimistic man."
Milon Kanti Dey said, "I became an admirer of Gupta's poetry during the 1970s."
Among others, Gupta's brother Taranga Anwar, Gupta's wife Happy Samudra and daughters -- Neel Samudra and Swapno Samudra -- were present at the programme.
