Zia NIT champ
Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman was crowned the unbeaten champion of the NIT Nagpur Grandmasters Chess Tournament through the tiebreak system at the close of the eleventh and final round held in Nagpur, India yesterday.
Zia and Aleksandrov secured nine points each and the title was decided through a tiebreak with Zia getting 77 Buchholz scores, more than his opponent could manage.
However, the results of other Bangladeshi Grandmasters were not as bright as Zia's as GM Abdullah Al Rakib and GM Enamul Hossain Razib finished 14th and 16th respectively with 7.5 points each.
IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar finished in 26th place with seven points while FM Taibur Rahman, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag, FM DEbaraj Chatterjee and FM Nasir Ahmed finished 44th,
47th, 48th and 50th respectively. Taibur, Parag, Debaraj and Nasir earned 6.5 points each.
