Selim CPB president, Zafar general secretary
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday elected Mujahidul Islam Selim and Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed as the party's president and general secretary respectively.
They were elected during the first meeting of a 49-member central committee, which was formed at the end of the party's 10th congress. However, names of seven members of the committee were not announced immediately.
Besides, the names of presidium members, central committee organisers, four advisers, and a 211-member national parishad were also announced, CPB leader Ruhin Hosain Prince told The Daily Star.
A three-day 10th congress of the party ended on Saturday in the capital.
During the congress, the party amended some provisions in its manifesto including that a member of the party can be elected as president or general secretary maximum twice, added Prince.
The presidium members of the party are Haider Akbar Khan Rono, Md Shah Alam, Mohammad Altaf Hossain, Laxmi Chakraboty, Shamsuzzaman Selim, Kazi Sajjad Jahir Chandon, Ahsan Habib Lablu, and Rafiquzzaman Layek.
The last committee was formed at the 9th national congress in 2008.
