Gaudiya dance performance in Mymensingh

A huge audience enjoyed a classical dance evening at the district Shilpakala Auditorium recently. The event titled “Gaudiya Nritya: Shokal Ras-er Dhara” was organised by Indira Gandhi Cultural Center, High Commission of India, Dhaka, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The programme was sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Choreographed and directed by Professor Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, head of Dance Department of Rabindra Bharati University in India, the event was well received by the audience who gave a resounding round of applause throughout. The dancers who performed in groups were Arpita Mukherjee, Ranjima Chaterjee, Paromita Banerjee, Swarupa Das, Nayanika Chaterjee, Rachana Kar, Sudeshna Majumder, Ayon Mukherjee, Sheikh Wasim Raja, Priyanka, Souma Biswas and Shibu Das. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh, Lokman Hossain Miah, inaugurated the function as chief guest. Among others, Professor Dr. Mahua Mukherjee addressed the inaugural session. Tagore had enriched Bengali literature with his huge volume of works including songs, said the speakers. We should work together to disseminate the ideology of Tagore among the masses, they added. The Deputy Commissioner also thanked the troupe for staging the programme in Mymensingh. Ekramul Haque Titu, Mayor of Mymensingh Municipality, greeted the Indian artistes with bouquets. Amitava Mukherjee worked on the lighting and background music.
