Nominations for 6th Citycell-Channel i Music Awards announced

Nominations for the 6th Citycell-Channel i Music Awards were recently announced. Among the 65 nominees are singers, lyricists, music directors and bands. The awards will be conferred in 15 different categories, including a Lifetime Achievement award. Sadi Mohammad, Lily Islam, Shama Rahman and Anima Roy are among the nominees in the Best Rabindra Sangeet category. Khairul Anam Shakil, Shaheen Samad, Yakub Ali Khan, Shahid Kabir Palash and Rebeka Sultana have been nominated in the Best Nazrul Sangeet category.

Eminent singer Ferdausi Rahman, along with Anil Kumar Saha and Kheyali Pankaj Basu, are the nominated artistes in the Best Classical Music (vocal) category. Andrew Kishore, Bappa Majumder, SI Tutul, Shithi and Tahsan have earned nods in the adhunik group, while one of five young singers -- Nasrin Sani, Naju, Porosh Moni, Shafkat and Kazi Shuvo -- will be recognised as the Best Promising Artiste of the year. Bari Siddiqui, Tuntun Baul, Shimul Yousuf, Jahangir and Momtaz have been nominated in the folk category.

This year, the Best Music Director category features musicians who are also well-known singers, such as Bappa Majumder, Hyder Husyn, Rajib, Anan, and S Pulok. Kazi Rafiqul Haque, Tuhin, Robiul Islam Jibon, Dipto, Zia, and Kathuria (jointly) have received nominations as top lyricists. Warfaze, Shironamhin, Pentagon, Metalmaze, and Shunno have been nominated in the Best Band category.

Awards will also be given in soundtrack, music video, classical music (instrumental), sound engineer and album cover design categories. A highlight of the event will be recognising a seasoned musician of the country with a Lifetime Achievement award. This year's jury board consists of renowned music personalities Sudhin Das, Sohrab Hossain, Farida Parveen, Mohammad Rafiquzzaman, Rezwana Chowdhury Banna and Gazi Mazharul Anwar. Like previous years, there will also be the 6th Citycell-Channel i Music Awards by popular choice, based on public votes through SMS. The award-giving ceremony will be held in the first week of December.
