Acclaimed actor Humayun Faridee continues to impress viewers with his directorial finesse. His latest coup is the hour-long Eid play, “Kalbihongo”. Written by Shafiqur Rahman Shantanu, the play is being shot at Uttara's Anandabari Shooting House. The cast includes familiar faces like Sadia Islam Mou, Litu Anam, Jitu Ahsan, with a special cameo by Faridee himself. Walking into the shooting spot, this correspondent saw Faridee, renowned illusionist Jewel Aich and actor Hasan Masud striking up a casual adda, with actress Mou talking to her daughter Pushpita near them. In another room, cinematographer Anwar Hossain Bulu could be seen orchestrating the arrangement of the set with props and lighting. Faridee says ntv will air the play -- a fantasy thriller -- this Eid. On his cameo, Faridee says his character, 'Anis Shaheb', is a guest teacher at a private university. The actor adds that he has gathered a lot of experience as a director. Apart from directing TV plays aired last Eid-ul-Fitr, his works include serials like “Onubhumi” and “Chhayabithi”. As soon as assistant cameraman Shafiqul gives a 'green signal', Faridee and Mou take their places on a sofa as a teacher and his student. Cinematographer Anwar Hossain asks if Faridee wants to put on something over his shirt. A black shawl is brought forward on Faridee's request, and then cameras begin to roll, shooting the scene in one hour. Meanwhile a nearby room gets propped up for another scene. Jewel Aich is here to watch his good friend Faridee shooting the play; Zahid Hasan also arrives at the shooting spot. Faridee promptly asks the staff to pour a cup of tea for Zahid. Jitu Ahsan says Humayun Faridee is one of his favourite actors and directors. In “Kalbihongo” he plays Mou's boyfriend. Litu Anam thinks the plot is brilliant. Mou says her character is a bit unusual but she is enjoying her work. In the meantime, shooting resumes. Litu Anam and Jitu Ahsan stand in front of the camera. The power goes off, delaying the shot by an hour. The next scene will be shot on the roof, so another round of adda forms. Faridee returns to talking about his character, saying 'Anis Shaheb' has the uncanny ability to tell things about a person just by looking into their eyes. One of his students discovers this. A lot of trouble soon follows -- building momentum for the plot. A set is put up on the roof as the night thickens. Mou and Jitu take only three takes to complete the shot. Faridee calls it a day and tells the production to pack up. And that is how Humayun Faridee spends a day as a director.
