Charges against 105 read out at special court

Trial of 105 BDR mutineers of 41 Rifles Battalion started at special court-1 at Satkhira Battalion headquaters in yesterday.
A three-member court headed by Rajshahi Sector Commander Lt Col Yahiya Azam started trial proceedings at 10:10am and continued until 12:10pm. Other members of the court are Lt Col Khalid Hossain and Major Touhidul Islam.
Complainant Subedar Major Abdus Sattar of the battalion read out allegations against the 105 BDR mutineers before the court.
Of the accused 27 are in jail hajat while the remaining 78 are at battalion headquarters. The court issued arrest warrant against the 78 and asked prosecutor Lt Col Enayet Karim, commanding officer of 41 Rifles Battalion, to produce all the accused in the court today.
In his submission, the complainant told the court that the accused revolted against their officers, misbehaved with them and their family members on February 26, 2009. They came out of the battalion headquarters, took out a procession on the street and chanted slogans, expressing solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital. The court took the charges against the accused into its cognisance.
Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Advocate Shashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Advocate Md Selim were present at the court.
