15 BDR men appeal for retracting confession
Fifteen members of Bangladesh Rifles yesterday appealed to a Dhaka court for retracting their confessional statements made in connection with February 2009 BDR carnage at Pilkhana.
They alleged that they were tortured in remands into giving the statements.
After the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Abdul Majid directed the authorities concerned to keep the petitions in the case file.
Earlier, 205 BDR members submitted similar petitions on different occasions.
The Criminal Investigation Department arrested a total of 2,214 BDR members and 33 civilians for their alleged involvement in the carnage that killed 74 people including 57 army officers.
BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and Awami League leader Torab Ali were also arrested.
Of the arrestees, 2,190 members were taken on remand and 525 gave confessional statements.
Meantime, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Enamul Haque directed the CID to submit probe report of the case by April 21.
