Programmes to observe historic March 7
Different socio-cultural and political organisations have chalked out elaborative programmes across the country to observe the historic March 7 today.
On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through his historic speech at Suhrawardy Udyan, the then Race Course Maidan, called on the unarmed Bangalees to wage a decisive struggle against the Pakistan junta, setting the tone for the 1971 War of Liberation.
To mark the day, the ruling Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies have chalked out elaborative programmes.
The day's main programme will start with hosting of the national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban and at the party's central office at 6:30am.
The party leaders will also place wreaths at the portrait of the father of the nation in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the city at 7:30am.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the AL president, will address a discussion organised by her party at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 3:00pm as the chief guest.
Party's associate bodies, including Mohila Awami League, Jubo League, Jubo Mohila League, Krishak League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Swechchhasebak League and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, will also hold different programmes.
The pro-AL organisations will also play the historic March 7 address by Bangabandhu and the Liberation War songs across the country.
