Road crashes kill schoolboy, 3 others
At least four people, including a schoolboy, were killed in separate road accidents Tangail, Narayanganj, Brahmanbaria and Chapainawabganj yesterday.
A correspondent from Narayanganj reports: One person was killed in a road accident here yesterday.
Agitating people blocked Dhaka-Narayanganj highway for one and half an hours and vandalised at least six vehicles following the accident in Fatullah at about 10:30am.
The deceased was identified as Gopal Chandra Sarker, 45, worker of a garment factory in Fatullah area and son of Sohananda Sarker of Gaibandha.
The accident occurred when a speeding truck hit Gopal near Mazdair graveyard in Fatullah at about 10:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.
As the news spread, locals rushed to the spot and blocked the highway protesting the accident. They vandalised at least four trucks and two buses.
Fatullah police rushed in and brought the situation under control. Gopal's body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our correspondent from Tangail says: A nine-year old schoolboy was killed in a road accident here.
The dead was identified as Razan, 9, a class-III student of Light House School of Karatia in Tangail Sadar upazila and son of Abdur Rahman of Karatia Chowdhury Para village.
Razan was run over and killed by a Nalua-bound passenger bus at Basail Bus Stand at about 12:00 noon. The accident occurred when Razan was returning from his aunt's house in Basail along with his cousin Rakib.
Rakib, 14, a student of class-IX of Karatia HM Institution School and College, was also injured during the accident and was admitted to the Basail Upazila Health Complex.
After the accident, angry people put up barricade on Tangail-Basail road for half an hour. Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police seized the passenger bus and detained its driver and helper.
Our correspondent in Brahmanbaria adds: One person was killed in a road accident as a bus hit a trolley van from behind on Brahmanbaria-Comilla highway at Tantar village under Akhaura upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Md Manik Mia, 30, a trolley van driver, of Sultanpur village.
Witnesses and police said the accident occurred when a speeding Brahmanbaria-bound bus hit the trolley while it (trolley) was crossing Tantar turning point, leaving Manik dead on the spot. The body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Our correspondent from Chapainawabganj adds: A man was killed in a road accident on Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi highway at Haripur in Chapainawabganj town yesterday. Agitated people blocked the highway for about one and half hours protesting death.
The deceased was identified as, Shariful Islam, 25, driver of Nasimon and son of Latifur Rahman of Dariapur in the town.
Police and locals said, the accident occurred at around 10:00am when a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus from Chapainawabganj collided head-on with a Nasimon at Haripur, leaving Sharuiful dead on the spot.
Locals blocked the highway for about one and half hours protesting death, causing sufferings to passengers as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the highway.
Later, police brought the situation under control and restored the vehicular movement at 11:30am. Police seized the bus. They also sent the body to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
