The new Sonia Musa Store in Banani DOHS is an addition to the glamour of the boulevard that boasts having it all. The boutique designed to create a space of warmth and comfort for the client who wishes to unwind in a lounge and high-end hospitality. Facing an uninterrupted view of nature, the boutique store features a decor with the same delicate touch as seen in the styles of Sonia Musa. The walls are all cladded with glass to reflect light in a beautiful pink hue. The emblem helps create the texture on the surfaces to create a synergy of the ultimate brand experience.

Enough said about the store. We needed to know more from the designer and founder herself to comprehend her reasons behind initiating another luxury fashion store in Dhaka.

For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.

What's your story behind pursuing in the field of fashion?

Although I studied law and business, fashion was always something I wanted to pursue. I started my brand in 2018 and the initial support from family and friends has been very encouraging. My father is, to this date, my biggest inspiration. He has always encouraged me to do something on my own. My husband and mother-in-law also motivate me a lot to keep going and they support me in every way. From them, I get the courage to follow my passion.

What would you say is Sonia Musa Dhaka's specialty? What kind of craftsmanship are you particularly dealing with?

The specialty of Sonia Musa Dhaka is the care and attention put in the detail in every design we create. All of our designs are done by hand in our private atelier. The brand's style has always been to find the unique twist in traditional wear. We do a lot of zardosi work, all different kinds of embroidery among many different other methods on the most exquisite fabrication we are able to source. Each season is about brainstorming about different new techniques and how we can implement it.

Is there any chance of taking the brand international?

It would be an honour to be able to represent Bangladesh internationally. Although we are based in Dhaka for the moment, our clientele come from all over the world. We have clients placing orders from the UK, UAE and the US. Once we get past this devastating pandemic and the world goes back to normal, it would be amazing to have the opportunity to represent Bangladesh and our work in international shows and exhibitions.

When there are so many boutiques houses available in the country. Where does Sonia Musa Dhaka see itself?  Which particular gap is the brand willing to fill?

The brand experience that we are committed to provide to our beloved clients is exactly what sets us apart.  Every touch point for Sonia Musa, starting from our campaigns to the ambience when you walk into our store, and styles we create has a touch of brand identity and taste. That is what we believe luxury means to a brand like Sonia Musa.

Long term plans with the brand?

My brand is still very young and there is a lot of room for us to grow and do more. I have always wanted to design an exclusive limited edition wedding wear collection which is currently in process and will be available very soon this Fall Winter season.
