HC directs Chandpur tribunal to send minor, her daughter, back to her husband
The High Court today directed the Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal of Chandpur to send a 17-year-old girl and her two-and-a-half-month-old daughter from a safe home in Tongi to her husband Kamal Uddin.
The Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal of Chandpur had earlier sent the minor girl to the safe home under the Children Development Centre of Tongi and sent Kamal to jail after police produced them before the tribunal following an abduction and rape case filed by her mother.
The girl, now around 17-years-old, gave birth to her child on October 27 last year in the safe home.
Today, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing the statements and opinions from Kamal Uddin and the girl.
The girl said she wanted to live with her husband Kamal, now 22 years, after the authorities concerned of the safe home produced her and her daughter before the HC bench in line with its earlier directive.
The HC bench heard their statements during hearing a petition filed by Kamal seeking its order on the Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal.
Kamal's lawyer Sheikh Ali Ahmed Khokon told The Daily Star that Kamal, from Jakna village under Haziganj upazila in Chandpur, and the girl of the same village eloped on February 18, 2019 and got married.
The girl's mother filed a case with Haziganj Police Station on December 7, 2019 against Kamal, who runs a business in Narayanganj, on charges of abduction and rape of the girl.
Police arrested Kamal and his wife on May 26, 2020 in connection with the case and produced them before the Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal of Chandpur.
The tribunal sent Kamal to jail and sent the girl to the safe home.
Following a bail petition, the HC on October 20 last year granted ad-interim bail to Kamal in the case.
