Wrongful imprisonment: Arman Bihari released from jail after 5 years
Arman Bihari, who served in jail for five years following his wrongful arrest, has been freed from Kashimpur Jail-2 in Gazipur today.
He was released around 3:00pm after jail authorities received an order from the High Court, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting the prison's Deputy Jailer Ali Afzal.
Arman, a weaver in Mirpur's Benarasi Palli, landed in jail after he was arrested in a narcotics case. On January 27, 2016, Pallabi police arrested him instead of the original accused in the case as both their fathers' names are same.
On December 31 last year, the High Court declared the arrest and detention of Arman illegal and contradictory to his fundamental and human rights, and asked the authorities concerned of the government to immediately release him from jail.
The HC order came following a writ petition filed by Law and Life Foundation, a rights organisation.
