Judgment in Babri Masjid demolition case on September 30
A special court in Lucknow will pronounce judgment in the 28-year-old case relating to the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya on September 30.
Special CBI Judge SK Yadav, who heard the Babri mosque demolition case and will deliver the verdict, has asked all 32 accused -- including Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar -- to be present before him on that day, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Advani, Joshi and Bharti are accused of conspiracy that led to demolition of the 15th-century mosque on December 6, 1992.
The mosque was razed by right-wing Hindu activists on December 6, 1992 -- an incident that sparked riots in different parts of India.
Those who pulled it down believed that the mosque stood on the site of an ancient temple marking the birthplace of Lord Ram.
Advani (92) had recorded his statement in the mosque demolition case before the special CBI court through video conference on July 24 and Joshi (86) recorded his statement a day before. Both leaders have denied all charges against them.
The arguments of the defence and the prosecution Central Bureau of Investigation concluded on September 1, CBI counsel Lalith Singh said.
The CBI produced 351 witnesses and about 600 pieces of documentary evidence before the court.
