India’s 21-day lockdown unlikely to be lifted anytime soon: Modi
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made it clear that the ongoing three-week nationwide lockdown was unlikely to be lifted in one go on April 14 as the country has seen a sharp rise in coronavirus cases.
During a meeting with floor leaders of various political parties in parliament via video conferencing, Modi said he would consult with chief ministers but it looked unlikely that the lockdown could end anytime soon, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
"The prime minister told us that pre-corona and post-corona life won't be same," said Biju Janata Dal leader Pinaki Misra after the meeting.
The prime minister also made it clear that lockdown will not be lifted in one go on April 14, Misra said.
Modi said substantial behavioural, social and personal changes will have to take place in the wake of coronavirus onslaught.
The meeting was held to discuss the fight against coronavirus as the number of positive cases in the country climbed to 5,194 and the death toll to 149.
